SENATE President Juan Miguel Zubiri on Tuesday continued his tirades against China amid its continued harassment of Philippine naval forces in the disputed West Philippine Sea.

“We need to talk kasi hindi na sila (China) nakikinig sa atin. We were even told that they also ignored their supposed hotline, and mga after 4-hours na sila sumagot.

This is an atrocious act of violence, those acts are illegal and we need not only a note verbale here because we have filed so many diplomatic protests that puwede na i-gift wrap ang buong Chinese Embassy sa mga sulat na ‘yun,” Zubiri told newsmen at the end of the 122nd Police Service Anniversary at Camp Crame where he was the guest of honor and speaker.

Sen. Zubiri said he and all his fellow senators are 100 percent behind President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ R. Marcos Jr. ‘s declaration that not even a quarter (of the Philippine waters) should be given by the Philippines to China.

The official added they are leaving all foreign policy matters to the Commander-in-Chief, whom he said remains on top of the situation.

He said that he has not talked with President Marcos regarding the matter yet although a few days ago, they had dinner.

Later, he said he was shocked when he discovered the ‘water bombing’ incident.’ The Senate, including those from the opposition, condemned the incident.

Zubiri said there is a need to act on the matter since he got the information that the Chinese have already been encroaching near the Malampaya Shoal which is very near Palawan.

In another radio interview, he also suggested a boycott of all Chinese companies and products as a sign of protest against the continued harassment of Philippine naval authorities by China.

He added that like Vietnam, the Philippines should start looking for other trading partners instead of relying on China.

“Maghanap din po tayo ng ibang trading partners kung saan mapalago natin at mapaganda natin ang ekonomiya ng ating bansa na hindi po tayo dependent sa China, hindi po tayo nakasandal sa China para sa ating mga produkto,” he said.

According to the Senate president, the country may reopen its free trade agreements with countries like the United States, European Union, Australia, New Zealand and the Southeast Asian countries once it starts boycotting Chinese companies and products.

He also asked: “China, bakit napakahirap kang kaibiganin at napakahirap mong mahalin?” days after a Chinese Coast Guard ship blocked and fired a water cannon at a Philippine Coast Guard vessel bound for Ayungin Shoal.
