THE final testing and sealing (FTS) of the vote counting machines (VCMs) for the trial run of the automated Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) was successfully held on Monday in Bgy. Paliparan, Dasmariñas City, Cavite.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) reported a 100% successful conduct of the FTS in Dasmariñas City .

“The FTS is conducted to ensure that the machines will operate properly and as configured on October 30, 2023,” said Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco.

Laudiangco said the VCMs will be used in the pilot testing of the automated Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections in select barangays in Dasmariñas City on October 30.

He said that a total of 104 VCMs were subjected to FTS, with contingency machines such as one in DES (Dasmariñas Elementary School), three in PNHS (Paliparan National High School), and eight in P3ES (Airport 3 Elementary School).

Dasmariñas City, Cavite is one of the pilot areas for the automated polls, along with Bgy. Pasong Tamo in the 6th district of Quezon City.

Comelec chairperson George Erwin Garcia said in other parts of the country, the voting will be manual.

“In Dasmariñas City and in District 6 in Quezon City, the election shall be automated,” Garcia said.

“Why did we choose Dasmariñas and Quezon City? We chose the bigger ones, the Comelec chair explained.

Based on Comelec data, there are around 60,766 voters in 133 clustered precincts in Bgy. Pasong Tamo, Quezon City while there are around 51,435 registered voters in 101 clustered precincts in Bgy. Paliparan III and another 1,475 voters in three clustered precincts in Bgy. Zone II in Dasmariñas City. With Jane Eleda
