ANTIPOLO City — Comebacking Myles Powell scored a season-high 50 points and led a three-point shooting barrage as the Bay Area Dragons defeated Rain or Shine Elasto Painters,120-87, in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Ynares Center here Friday.

Powell, who played in only his fifth game in the conference after being inserted back to the lineup to replace Andrew Nicholson, made 11 of 17 three-pointers to power the Dragons to a smashing victory over the E-Painters.

As a team, Bay Area finished with 22-of-53 shooting from the rainbow territory.

Powell also finished with 10 rebounds to help the Dragons improve their win-loss record to 7-2 in a tie with Converge FiberXers.

Powell took the place of Anderson, who also scored 50 points in Bay Area’s 89-92 setback to Meralco last Nov.4.

Chuanxing Liu, Bay Area’s 7-5 behemoth, added 11 points and nine rebounds, while Kobey Lam and Jianhua Song had nine points each for coach Brian Goorjian.

“I thought the big thing is keeping these guys engaged even when they’re not playing,” said Goorjia, referring to Powell and the rest of his players..

“You can see what he did tonight, he hasn’t lost (a step) and he’s probably gained during that period of time,” added the veteran mentor.

Anton Asistio led Rain or Shine’s losing effort with 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting in 19 minutes of action on top of four rebounds and four assists.

Rey Nambatac finished with 12 points for the Yeng Guiao-mentored Rain or Shine, which dropped to a 3-5 record in a tie with NorthPort Batang Pier.

A big disappointment for the Elasto Painters was newly-acquired import Ryan Pearson, who managed only nine points on 2-of-7 shoting in 29 minutes in the floor.

Pearson replaced Steve Taylor.
