SWEEP or no sweep, San Miguel Beer and its battle-tested veterans are right on target for another PBA championship.

In fact, the Beermen would rather think of the bigger games ahead than worry about completing a rare 11-game sweep of the elimination round in the PBA Philippine Cup.

Ask San Miguel team captain Chris Ross.

“We haven’t talked about it one time. We’re just worried about each game. Game by game,”said Ross in an interview posted in the official PBA website.

Ross, one of the team’s acknowledged leaders, claimed the team will just move forward even if it fails to complete as sweep.

“We’re rolling right now, but I feel like we can get better when these next few games come and the playoffs come,” the veteran guard added
Last Sunday, San Miguel blasted the Robert Bolick-less NLEX , 120-100, for its ninth straight win at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.

Gilas Pilipinas mainstay CJ Perez came through with a game-high 30 points on 7-of-16 shooting, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals.

His Gilas teammate, June Mar Fajardo, added 20 points and a game-high 21 rebounds to power the Beermen to the No. 1 seed in the 12-team tournament.

The Beermen also got 15 points each from Jericho Cruz and Terrence Romeo and 14 points each from Don Trollano and Marcio Lassiter.

“If we play the same way we’ve been playing, it would not bother us. For as long as they (the Beermen) play hard and know their roles, we’l be okay,” said San Miguel coach Jorge Gallent, citing San Mguel’s final two assignments against Blackwater and Meralco.

Enoch Valdez and Jhan Mchale Nermal combined for 34 points for NLEX, which played minus Bolick.

Bolickwas nowhere in sight as he attended to his wife Cassandra after giving birth to their son.

In the curtainraiser, Meralco posted a surprisingly easy 74-51 win over Magnolia Chicken Timplados.

Chris Newsome and Raymond Almazan, led four players with double-digit scores for the Luigi Trillo-mentored Bolts.

Newsome finished with 12 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and two blocks, while Almazan added a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Bolts, who improved to 5-5 win-loss record.

Chris Banchero contributed 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field, while Brandon Bates chipped in 10 points and six rebounds.
