Vanguards roll back Sea Lions

EMILIO Aguinaldo College-Cavite handed Olivarez College, pulling off a 77-72 victory in the 30th NCRAA basketball tournament at Bestlink Gymnasium in Quezon City.

The Vanguards leaned on the trio of CJ Quirap, JR Ilustrisimo and Nino Sollestre as they registered their second win in three games.

Quirap fired 19 points, Ilustrisimo added a double-double of 18 points, 11 rebounds and six assists and Sollestre contributed 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Vanguards of coach Azlie Guro.

Iverson Aquiatan led Olivarez with 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Rodel Renon and Lance De Leon added 12 and 10 points, respectively, for coach Mike Saguiguit.

Overshadowed by EAC’s upset victory was defending champion Immaculada Concepcion College, which posted a 79-72 win over PATTS College of Aeronautics.

Alfred Flores finished with 26 points on 11-of-21 from the field, and five rebounds for the coach Ogie Gumatay-mentored Blue Hawks, who notched their fourth win in six games.

Jayvee Ibarra added 12 points and six rebounds while Totoy Ramirez had 10 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

Elijah Jamon paced PATTS with 16 points, followed by Eurie Macalalad with 14 points and eight rebounds for coach Lensy Aransazo.

With the score tied at 67-all, the Blue Hawks took a five-point lead, 73-68, with 3:35 left.

In the first game, De La Salle University-Dasmariñas bounced back with a 79-65 victory over St. Dominic College of Asia.

Gio Santiago finished with a game-high of 30 points on 11-of-18 shooting in 38 minutes of action for coach Tito Reyes.

Didoy Proel led SDCA with 21 points, four assists in almost 30 minutes of playing for coach Bong Dela Cruz.

In the other game, Philippine Merchant Marine School defeated Lyceum of the Philippines-Laguna, 80-70.
