UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas continued to dominate the men’s division, while National University topped the women’s eliminations Friday in the UAAP chess tournament at the Far Eastern University campus.

The Growling Tigers carved out a 3.5-0.5 win over Adamson in the seventh round to tally 21.5 points.

With La Salle losing to defending champion FEU, 1.5-2.5, UST opened a 3.5-point cushion for the lead.

The Green Archers have 18 points in second, while the Tamaraws sit in third with 17.5 points.

The Lady Bulldogs capped a scintillating seven-round campaign with 19.5 points, as Board 1 standout WFM Allaney Jia Doroy went unbeaten in six matches.

NU posted a 3-1 win over titleholder FEU.

Despite a 1.5-2.5 defeat to University of the Philippines, La Salle wound up second with 12 points, while idle Adamson placed third with 11.5 points.

Ateneo, which ended the elims with a 2-2 draw with UST, was able to seize the last spot in the Round of 4 with 11.5 points.

The Lady Tamaraws, who also have 11.5 points, were eliminated as the Lady Falcons and the Blue Eagles have a superior tiebreak.

Action in the men’s eighth and ninth round will be played today while the first two rounds of the women’s Final Four is scheduled on the same day.
