US sends 3k tarps for shelter to earthquake-hit provinces

THE United States and the International Office of Migration (IOM) are sending 3,000 shelter-grade tarps to the communities affected by the magnitude 7 earthquake that hit Abra and other parts of Ilocos region on Wednesday.

In a post on its official Facebook account, the US Embassy in Manila said “in response to the July 27 #EarthquakePH, USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance and IOM Philippines are sending 3,000 shelter-grade tarps to support the Philippine government’s response efforts.”

The Embassy said the tarps will provide much-needed shelter to affected communities in Northern Luzon.

It added “the U.S. continues to work with the Philippine government and partners to help Filipinos in times of need. #SaferTogetherUSPH USAID Philippines.”

Due to the continuous aftershocks since the occurrence of the major earthquake on Wednesday, affected residents have decided to camped out of their homes for their safety.

Many houses including roads and bridges were damaged as a result of the earthquake.
