THIS early, the administration of incoming President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. is seen to come up with pieces of legislation that reflect the concern over the welfare of the people.

Certainly, like the rest of the Filipinos, we cannot overemphasize the importance of these legislative measures to ensure that the needs and aspirations of the people, notably the poor, are met.

The public is heartened to know that members of President Marcos’ economic team, including Economic Planning Secretary Arsenio Balisacan, are known to be men of integrity, honesty and competence.

In appointing Balisacan to his Cabinet, Marcos said “our minds are aligned when it comes to economic managers.”

Balisacan will also head the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA).

NEDA is an independent Cabinet-level agency of the national government responsible for economic planning and development.

Other members of the economic team include Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Gov. Felipe Medalla and Trade and Industry Secretary Alfredo “Fred” Pascual.

Reports said the incoming Chief Executive from Ilocos Norte and Leyte also intends to include Public Works and Highways Secretary Manuel Bonoan to his economic team.

As expected, local business groups, such as the influential Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), welcomed President Marcos’ appointees to the economic team.

“They are all seasoned and competent economic leaders. We believe they would do good in managing our fiscal affairs” according to PCCI head George Barcelon.

Of course, the Filipino people from Batanes in the North down to Sulu in the South expect the incoming government of President Marcos to deliver on its pro-people agenda.
