SUV plows into 3 vehicles in Malabon City, 3 dead

AT least two persons were confirmed dead while two others were injured when a speeding Mitsubishi Xpander wagon plowed into three vehicles, including a tricycle, Monday before dawn in Malabon City.

Nobelia Esto, 54, of 004 Gulayan St., Brgy. Catmon, passenger of tricycle driven by Norberto Pinurla, died on the spot from severe head and body injuries while Pinurla was thrown off the bridge and plunged into the river. His body was recovered later along Tullahan River in C-4.

Two other persons identified as Shielo Escamillas, 44, of 89 Gen. Luna St. Brgy. Concepcion, driver of Ford Lynx and Ericson Lala, 50, of 18 Paez St. Brgy. Concepcion, passenger of Honda City were reportedly injured and were treated in an undisclosed hospital.

Malabon police chief P/Col. Albert Barot identified the driver of Mitsubishi Xpander (NPD-8114) that plowed through the involved vehicles as Kim Russel Sioco y Santos, 26, resident of 28 jnterior F. Nicolas St, Niugan, Malabon City.

An initial report showed that while the tricycle driven by Pinurla was travelling along Lambingan Bridge at around 3:35 a.m., the Mitsubishi Xpander heading towards Brgy. Catmon, travelling at high speed, encroached the opposite lane and hit the tricycle before plowing into two other vehicles, a Ford Lynx and Honda City.

The incident was caught on close circuit television (CCTV) camera installed in the area.

Charges for two counts of homicide through reckless imprudence and multiple damage to properties will be filed by police against Sioco before the Malabon City Prosecutor’s Office.
