Rob gets lucky with new roles
ROB Gomez feels so blessed. He is in a new movie, the trilogy “Shake, Rattle & Roll Extreme” where he is part of the “Rage” episode with Jane de Leon and Paolo Gumabao. And right after “Magandang Dilag” which was a big hit on GMA Afternoon Prime, he now has a new series right away and, this time, it’s on GMA Telebabad in the evening, “Lovers/Liars”.
How is his role in “Magandang Dilag” different from “Lovers/Liars”?
“In ‘Magandang Dilag’, contravida yung character ko as Jared Ilusorio, na niloko si Herlene Budol para makuha ang kayamanang minana niya,” he says. “Mas challenging ang role ko in ‘Lovers/Liars’. I play Joseph, a medical sakes representative who gets into a different kind of love triangle involving Michelle Vito as Andeng, a single mother that I didn’t know na naanakan ko pala, and Polo Ravales as Ronnie, a doctor-cardiologist who is a closet queen.”
He says it’s the most complex role ever assigned to him. “I’ve never been into a gay relationship so it’s a big challenge for me to play the role of Joseph,” he adds. “I’m excited as it’s so far away from my own personality and with the help of our director, Crisanto Aquino, I’m confident I’d be able to give justice to the role.”
He is thankful that both Polo Ravales and Michelle Vito are very helpful to him as his main co-stars.
“Mas una naman sila sa akin sa industry and they have much more experience, so I listen to their inputs. Pareho silang napakahusay na artista.”
He says he has shot a gay love scene with Polo. “Katatapos lang po i-shoot kahapon. Siempre, ginalingan ko para hindi na ipaulit sa amin. Very intense. Pareho kaming pinawisan sa tension. Grabe.”
He wants to thank Polo for being such a professional. “Naitawid namin ang eksena kasi nga he’s very professional about it. We didn’t feel any awkwardness kasi he is so game. Parang Kuya ang tingin ko sa kanya and I respect him so much. I’m really thankful napasama ako sa ‘Lovers/Liars’ kasi puro magagaling ang mga kasama ko in its very big cast, led by Ms. Claudine Barretto.”
It’s an open book that Rob has a love child with beauty queen Shaila Rebortera, Miss Multinational 2021, a pretty baby girl named Amelia. He says he rarely sees his daughter after he and her mom parted ways.
“I really miss her and my wish is makita ko sana siya this holiday season,” he says. “I promise to spoil her on Christmas Day.”
How is his relationship with Shaila at the moment?
“We’re trying to iron out some kinks,” he says. “Our daughter is turning one year old on December 5 and I am quite excited about it. I hope we can celebrate it all together.”
