Meanwhile, the House leader thanked Senator Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri for his outstanding service as the Senate President.

Zubiri resigned as Senate President and was replaced by Escudero who is being backed by majority of the Senators.

“In light of recent developments in the Senate, I would like to extend my congratulations to Senator Chiz Escudero on his ascension to the position of Senate President. Senator Escudero has long been a respected figure in our political landscape, known for his dedication, integrity, and commitment to the Filipino people,” Romualdez said.

His efforts in fostering a spirit of cooperation within the Senate have been invaluable,” he added.

The House of Representatives remains steadfast in its commitment to passing legislation that promotes the welfare and progress of our country. Under President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr.’s administration.

“We have laid out comprehensive programs and initiatives aimed at uplifting the lives of millions of Filipinos. With Senator Escudero’s leadership in the Senate, I am confident that we can further strengthen our legislative agenda and ensure the successful implementation of these programs,” he said.

For his part, Ako Bicol Party-List Rep. Zaldy Co was elated with the election of Escudero.

“As a fellow Bicolano, I’m immensely proud to witness Sen. Chiz Escudero’s remarkable achievement. His election as Senate president is a testament to his unwavering dedication, exemplary leadership, and steadfast commitment to serving the Filipino people,” Co said.

Known for his deep understanding of legislative processes and advocacy for good governance, Escudero consistently demonstrated his ability to work towards the common good. One of his initial efforts was to secure tax exemptions and additional benefits for low-income earners, leading to the enactment of RA 9504 (Tax Exemption for Minimum Wage Earners and Increased Tax Exemptions).

As leader of the Justice and Human Rights Committee, he was also instrumental in the passage of several important laws, including the Anti-Vagrancy Law (RA 10158), the Anti-Enforced or Involuntary Disappearance Act (RA 10353), and the Anti-Torture Act (RA 9745).

He is expected to lead the Senate towards meaningful reforms and addressing the pressing issues facing the nation.

“Congratulations, Senate president Chiz! Your Bicolano roots has always been a source of pride, and your new role elevates this pride to new heights. Mabuhay ka!” Co said.

The election of Escudero as Senate President means a “Golden Moment for Bicol.”

This was stressed by Albay Rep. Joey Salceda.

Salceda has cited Escudero’s “transformative leadership as governor of Sorsogon” as a guide for developing the rest of the region.

“It’s certainly a rare opportunity to get things done for Bicol, especially since the region also has a strong and well-placed delegation in the House,” Salceda said.

“By the time SP Chiz term ended as governor, Sorsogon’s GDP was growing at an eye-popping 12.2% annually, the fastest in Bicol when the PSA released its first ever provincial accounts. This was driven by innovations in governance, high-quality public works, and a sense of political unity in the province under a strong leadership” Salceda added.

The solon said that Escudero could help push for the continuation of the railway to Matnog, Sorsogon, the SLEX TR 5, the internationalization of Bicol International Airport, and other key public works for our region.

Escudero has longstanding relationships with local Bicol leaders.

Salceda is confident that Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez and Escudero will work together to get the budget passed early and to finish as much of President Marcos’s agenda enacted as possible.
