A SUSPECTED big-time drug trafficker in Western Mindanao was killed in a gunfight with local policemen who raided his house in Zamboanga Sibugay last Saturday, Police Regional Office 9 director Brig. Gen. Bowenn Joey M. Masauding said yesterday.

The official said suspect Hadger Edris Jaamil started firing at officers about to search his residence in Bgy. Salipyasin in Kabasalan municipality for drugs and weapons around 9 a.m. Saturday, forcing lawmen to retaliate.

The suspect suffered gunshot wounds and died on the spot, the PRO9 director reported to Philippine National Police chief Gen. Rommel Francisco D. Marbil.

Masauding said members of the Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Intelligence Unit and Drug Enforcement Unit and the Provincial Mobile Force Company went to the house of the suspect to serve a search warrant for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013 issued by the Zamboanga Sibugay Regional Trial Court Branch 24 last May 15.

“Our operatives were approaching the target residence when they were met with a volley of gunfire from the suspect forcing them to retaliate,” said the PRO9 director.

A companion of the slain suspect identified as Radzmer Mayo was arrested.

The operation resulted in the recovery of a chamber-loaded cal. .45 semi-automatic pistol with amagazine containing six live ammunition, 10 medium-size plastic packets containing an estimated P142,000 worth of shabu, several drug paraphernalia, and 11 pieces of P1,000 bills.

Masauding said the arrested suspect yielded a medium-size plastic packet containing some P34,000 worth of the “poor man’s cocaine.”

The arrested suspect who is now being held at the Zamnoanga Sibugay police lock-iup facility will be facing criminal charges for illegal possession of prohibited drugs under Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, the Western Mindanao police director said.
