SENATOR Raffy Tulfo weighed in on pressing issues after holding a committee hearing on the Committee on Energy’s consultative meeting with concerned government agencies and other stakeholders on implementing the “Fuel Marking Program” under Republic Act (RA) No. 10963, or the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) law.

Tulfo called the meeting to also ask the Department of Energy (DOE) and other agencies about their plans and possible solutions to oil price hikes in light of the global energy crisis.

Using the word “Inutil” to some government officials, Sen. Tulfo, who was obviously piqued, even warned the Bureau of Customs (BOC) for their “failure” to do their job in going after oil smugglers who are “damaging the economy of the country.”

During the consultative meeting on the fuel marking, Tulfo asked BOC Special Agent II Anthony Escandor why the Bureau filed a case against only one out of 7,000 violators, and the senator mentioned a few names of the said known “oil smugglers.”

Escandor said he cannot recognize supposedly the oil smugglers, which irked Tulfo.
