PRO 4-A agents nab gunman, driver in Quezon fatal shooting

POLICE Regional Office 4-A (PRO 4-A) Director Brigadier General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. yesterday reported the capture of two gunmen involved in a shooting incident in Tiaong, Quezon, on Tuesday, which left two persons dead.

According to the official, two suspects were arrested along with one suspect from Barangay Cabatang in Tiaong, who was identified as the driver of their getaway vehicle.

Nartatez said that one of the suspects, who was previously arrested for violation of Republic Act (RA) 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act of 2013, while one 64-year-old suspect, a businessman from Bgy. Palagaran, is also located in the same municipality.

The PRO 4-A director said that the three are now facing double murder charges in connection with the killing of Jessica Tamrado and Lanilyn Caya in Sitio Lalusis, Bgy. Palisa in Tiaong around 10:40 p.m. Tuesday.

He said that during an investigation, members of the Tiaong Municipal Police Station (MPS) reviewed CCTV (closed-circuit television) camera footage in the area and interviewed several witnesses who were able to jot down the suspects’ getaway car: a white Toyota Altis and were able to identify the plate number.

Relatives of Caya likewise revealed that she previously had an alleged “illicit affair” with the businessman, who also has a house in Tagaytay City in Cavite.

Nartatez said that his investigators learned that the suspect apparently got “jealous” when he learned that Caya had been involved with other men and had spent millions of cash he had entrusted to her. The businessman reportedly had also entrusted some of his properties to the victim.

During a review of the CCTV camera footage in the area and at the suspects’ escape routes, the official said they managed to locate the suspects’ house in Bgy. Kaybagal North in Tagaytay City, where the suspects were arrested.

The Tagaytay City hot pursuit operation likewise resulted in the confiscation of a Glock 40 Gen 4 semi-automatic pistol with serial number, a Colt Gold Cup cal. .45 pistol with serial number, a cal. 40 magazine with seven live ammunition, and a cal. .45 magazine with four bullets.

The getaway Toyota Altis was also recovered by the Quezon Police during the Tagaytay City raid.

Nartatez said that the recovered firearms will be submitted to the Philippine National Police (PNP) Forensic Group for a ballistics examination and comparison with the spent casings recovered at the crime scene.

He also congratulated the Quezon PPO (Police Provincial Office) headed by Col. Ledon D. Monte and the Tiaong MPS for solving the double murder case in record time due to their patient sleuthing.
