PNP records 85th COVID-19 fatality

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday recorded its 85th COVID-19 fatality: a 51-year- old non-commissioned officer from Cebu City.

According to PNP chief, General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar, their 85thfatality with the rank of Police Executive Master Sergeant died on Sunday due to due to Severe Acute Respiratory Illness secondary to COVID-19.

The PNP Health Service headed by Brigadier Gen. Luisito P. Magnaye said the cop experienced mild COVID-19 symptoms and tested positive for the virus when he was subjected to an RT-PCR test last Saturday.

Around 3 p.m. Sunday, he was declared dead by his attending physician.

“Tayo po ay lubos na nakikiramay sa pamilya ng pulis. Nalaman rin po natin na siya ay nakatanggap na ng unang dose ng COVID–19 vaccine. Isang paalala po ito sa ating mga kasamahan sa PNP na kahit tayo ay bakunado na, ibayong pag-iingat pa rin ang kailangan. Magsuot ng facemask/faceshield, maghugas ng kamay at higit sa lahat maglinis ng kapaligiran,” Gen. Eleazar said.

As of Tuesday, the PNP-HS said it has recorded 104 new recoveries bringing to 29,383 the total number of police personnel who have recovered from the disease since March last year and are now back to full duty status.

The PNP-HS also reported 110 new cases and is monitoring a total of 1,277 ‘active cases’ to date. Since March last year, there were already a total of 30,745 PNP personnel who have contracted the virus.

Gen. Eleazar said that as of Tuesday, a total of 49,087 or 22.25 percent of the PNP strength are now fully vaccinated while another 49,117 have received their first dose of vaccine.
