Paying taxes
EVERYBODY agrees that taxes play a key role in the successful implementation of government projects, programs and other initiatives.
The government, through concerned offices and agencies, ought to encourage the people and business establishments to pay correct taxes.
However, the authorities must simplify the payment of taxes .
And that’s what President Marcos did last Friday when he signed a landmark piece of legislation, which seeks to update the country’s taxation system.
It is Republic Act (RA) No. 11976, otherwise known as the Ease of Paying Taxes Act, according to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO).
Among other things, it aims to modernize and increase the efficiency and effectiveness of tax administration and strengthen taxpayers’ rights.
Likewise, RA No. 11976 classifies taxpayers into micro, small, medium and large.
In his first two state-of-the-nation addresses in 2022 and 2023, Marcos called on Congress to pass the “Ease of Paying Taxes Bill,” the PCO said.
And with the signing into law of the proposed legislation, the government is seen to succeed in encouraging more people to pay correct taxes.
As the legislative arm of the government, the two-chamber Congress makes sure that the Filipino people’s needs and aspirations are met.
