A PHILIPPINE National Police Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-DEG)-led anti-narcotics operation in Parañaque City on Tuesday night ended up in a gunbattle which left a top Metro Manila drug trafficker dead after he sold shabu worth P61.2 million to an undercover officer, PNP-DEG director, Brigadier General Randy Q. Peralta said Wednesday.

In a report to PNP Officer-in-Charge, Lieutenant General Vicente D. Danao Jr., Brig. Gen.

Peralta identified the slain suspect as Joe Marie Ordiales alias ‘Roger.’

A 2nd suspect identified as Arturo Santos Jr. alias ‘Pugo’ escaped during the sting conducted along Enrique M. Factor Road in Barangay Don Galo, Parañaque City around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, the PNP-DEG director said.

Members of the PNP-DEG Special Operations Unit-National Capital Region and International Foreign Liaison Division were joined by operatives from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-NCR, NCR Police Office Regional Drug Operations Unit and Regional Special Operations Group, Southern Police District, PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-NCR Field Unit and Regional Intelligence Unit-NCR in conducting the operation.

Prior to the shootout, the two suspects conspired to sell shabu to a poseur. However, Santos apparently sensed they were being entrapped and fired shots at the undercover agent.

“My men had no recourse but to retaliate killing the suspect on the spot,” said Brig. Gen. Peralta.

Recovered during the sting were around nine kilograms of the so-called ‘poor man’s cocaine’ valued at P61.2 million, the buy-bust money topped by two marked P1,000 bills, a chamber-loaded caliber .45 semi-automatic pistol with a magazine containing several live ammunition and a beige Toyota Camry with plate no. FAG 7063.

Peralta said that as of press time, they are still tracking down the suspect who managed to get away. “We have coordinated fully with the NCRPO and the PDEA our efforts to capture the suspect,” he said.

The recovered pieces of evidence were placed under the custody of the PNP-DEG while the body of the slain suspect was brought to a funeral parlor in Las Piñas City for an autopsy.
