FEU mauls La Salle in football
HOLDERS Far Eastern University pushed La Salle on the brink of elimination with a comprehensive 4-0 win in the UAAP men’s football tournament yesterday at the UP Football Stadium.
Selwyn Mamon netted a second-half brace while Karl Absalon and last season’s MVP Viejay Frigillano also entered the scoresheet for the Tamaraws.
FEU, which will face also-ran University of the East in its final warm-up to the Final Four on Thursday, rebounded from last Thursday’s 0-2 loss to University of the Philippines to improve to 25 points.
The Green Booters remained in fifth place with 15 points.
La Salle needs to gain full points against fabled rival Ateneo, which sits in fourth spot with 17 points, in the final elims fixture on Thursday to secure Final Four qualification.
A draw or a loss will bundle the Green Booters out of contention and will give the Blue Eagles the remaining Final Four slot.
Meanwhile, sisters Regine and Althea Rebosura stole the show helping defending champion FEU dismantle La Salle, 3-1, in a preview of next month’s women’s Final on Saturday.
The Lady Tamaraws solidified their hold of the top of the table with 21 points, six clear of the Lady Booters.
