POLICE Regional Office 5 director Brigadier General Jonnel C. Estomo on Saturday announced the arrest of a woman accused of being a New People’s Army (NPA) “tax collector” in Bicol following an entrapment operation in Daet, Camarines Norte.

The official identified the suspect as Evelyn Royo, a resident of Mabini Street, Purok 2 in Bgy. Kaunlaran, San Vicente, who was described as an active NPA supporter and “collector” of so-called NPA revolutionary tax in the region.

According to Estomo, members of the Camarines Norte Police Provincial Office and the Daet Municipal Police Station under Colonel Julius D. Guadamor arrested the suspect during a sting in front of the Golden Palace Restaurant in Zabala Street, Bgy. IV in Daet.

The entrapment operation was conducted amid a complaint from local businessman Kristian Vincent Sia, the official said.

“The businessman complained that the suspect demanded money from him in exchange for protection from NPA harassments in the province, Estomo said.

The suspect is now being held at the Daet police jail where appropriate robbery-extortion charges are being readied against her.
