SIX members of the New People’s Army (NPA) have surrendered to officers of the Zambales Police Provincial Office saying they are long tired of being hunted by security troops and now want to avail of the government’s comprehensive livelihood package for rebel returnees, local police director Colonel Romano V. Cardiño told the Journal Group on Saturday.

“Once again, the E-CLIP program of the government has proven to be a key in enticing rebels to return to the folds of the law and be with their families once again,” the official said.

Cardiño said that one of the five he identified only as “Ka Danny,” a farmer from Bgy. San Rafael in San Marcelino municipality, yielded following talks with members of the local police and the Army.

The farmer’s brother and wife have also turned themselves over to the local police. The three were identified as an active combatant of the NPA’s Kilusang Larangan Gerilya West Lino Bias Command operating in the provinces of Zambales and Bataan.

The two others who previously surrendered were from Sitio Itanglew in Bgy. San Rafael. They turned over a caliber .38 revolver with five live ammunition to the police.

All three were said to be involved in the monitoring of the movement of security troops in Zambales and Bataan and have reportedly participated in several attacks on government troops in the region.

The three others are also members of the indigenous community in Barangays Sta. Fe and San Pablo in San Marcelino. All three were monitored to have acted as NPA “couriers” in the province tasked to deliver rice and other basic supplies to the movement in their mountain hideouts.
