SAN JOSE CITY – The government’s campaign to lure more New People’s Army (NPA) rebels into its fold through the Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (RTF-ELCAC) is gaining ground with the surrender of two communist personalities in this city on Friday afternoon.

In a report to Police Regional Office 3 director Brig. Gen. Valeriano T. De Leon, Nueva Ecija police head Col. Jaime O. Santos identified the two rebel surrenderers as alias Ka Ikong/Ka Gino, former platoon supply officer of the NPA’s Josefino Corpuz command from 2001 to 2002, and alias Ka Rona/Ka Iza, former member of the Arcadio Peralta command in 1994-1995.

“The existence of terrorism and armed conflict imposes fear and anguish to some affected areas of infiltration, but still the government offers an open arm reconciliation with the leftists,” Santos said, noting that this initiative was in line with the directive of De Leon to continuously carry the advocacies of the RTF-ELCAC.

It was learned that the two rebels surrendered to the 2nd provincial mobile force company based in this city under the command of Lt. Col. Barnard Danie Dasugo.

Santos said Dasugo collaborated with the police stations of San Jose City, Science City of Muñoz, Talavera, Guimba, Lupao, Llanera and the PIU-NEPPO, RIU3, RID-PRO3, 303RD MC RMFB3, and the 84th IB-7TH Infantry Division, Philippine Army in conducting special intelligence operations that facilitated the surrender of the two rebel personalities.
