NPA gunsmith nabbed in CamSur raid

COMBINED agents of the Philippine National Police – Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and the Police Regional Office 5 on Sunday captured a suspected New People’s Army gunsmith and seized a cache of high-powered firearms and explosives in a raid in Calabanga, Camarines Sur.

A report to PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar identified the arrested suspect as Fausto Danabar, a 46-year-old resident of Bgy. Tomagodtod in Calabanga municipality.

Members of the PRO5 under Brig. Gen. Jonnel Estomo and the CIDG Region 5 headed by Col. Randy Glenn Silvio recovered a cal. .45 pistol, a hand grenade, four cal. .38 revolvers, an improvised pistolized 12-gauge shotgun, two cal. .22 rifle receivers, two .22 magazines, two cal. .45 magazines, two shotgun upper receivers, four 12-gauge ammunition, five .38 bullets, and two improvised shotgun magazines inside the suspect’s house.

Silvio, in a report to PNP-CIDG director, Maj. Gen. Albert Ignatius Ferro described the arrested suspect as an alleged gunsmith of the NPA operating in Camarines Sur.

“We have information that the suspect is the one repairing rebel guns being damaged in encounters with security forces in the province and other parts of Bicol. Apart from that, he is also a suspected buyer of firearms from the NPA,” said Silvio.

The PRO5 and CIDG agents were assisted by members of the Naval Forces Southern Luzon in raiding the suspect’s house on the strength of a search warrant for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013 issued by Judge Erwin Virgilio Ferrer of the Calabanga Regional Trial Court.

The suspect is undergoing questioning at the Camarines Sur CIDG Provincial Field Unit while criminal charges for illegal possession of firearms and explosives are being readied against him.
