CABANATUAN CITY – A new acting Nueva Ecija provincial police director in the person of Col. Rhoderick B. Campo was officially sworn-in during simple change-of-command rites held here on Saturday morning.

Campo, the erstwhile chief of the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 5 in the Bicol region, was formally installed as the new top cop by Brig. Gen. Valeriano T. De Leon, PRO 3 director, at 10:30 a.m. at the NEPPO gymnasium here.

Campo replaced Col. Jaime O. Santos, a Born-Again Christian, whose tour of duty in the province ended after six months and 17 days. His next assignment is yet to be announced.

Santos relinquished his post via virtual mode as he was placed under isolation after his antigen test twice showed he is positive for the coronavirus.

The most notable that Santos implemented during his stint here was his “no-take policy” wherein he rejected all kinds of bribes emanating from all forms of illegal gambling, illegal logging, prostitution, fake cigarettes and other protection rackets.

In his virtual farewell address, Santos hailed the “no contact apprehension policy” implemented by the PRO3 under De Leon’s watch.

His sudden relief came more than three weeks after five Nueva Ecija policemen deployed in various police stations of the province were tagged in the brutal July 20 kidnap-murder of Muslim online seller Nadia Casar, amid the Intensified Cleanliness Policy being implemented by PNP chief General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar.

“You see me when the time comes,” said De Leon, in his parting words to Santos, who he described as the “epitome of utmost professionalism” for his “supreme sacrifice” in serving out his best as PD of the province.
