DEPUTY Speaker and Valenzuela City 2nd District Rep. Eric Martinez on Sunday urged all residents of Metro Manila to be responsible in consuming water, as the water level in Angat Dam failed to reach the year-end target for 2021 of 212 meters.

Martinez said it missed the mark by almost 10 meters with its current level of 202.80 meters as of 6:00 AM, January 01, 2022 according to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophisical and Astronomical Service Administration’s (PAG-ASA) website.

“Residents within Metro Manila should be wary of their water consumption, most especially for the months leading to the dry season,” Martinez said.

“Let us pactice the usual conservation measures we do at home such as opting for dippers as alternative to showers when taking baths, utilizing excess water for other activities, and overall being mindful about water’s scarcity,” Martinez added.

Martinez also called for the government’s proactivity to lay down effective plans for the looming threat to NCR (National Capital Region) as well as nearby provinces’ water supply.

“All the necessary contingency measures must now be put in place by the NWRB (National Water Resources Board) to ensure a stable supply for Metro Manila’s residents, for the most part, we are still dealing with a deadly corona virus and proper hygiene is of prime importance,” Martinez further stated.

Angat Dam is the only major water source for Metro Manila providing 98 percent of the region’s water supply with a storage capacity of about 850 million cubic meters.
