THE Manila City government started administering bivalent COVID-19 vaccine to healthcare workers yesterday before noon at the Sta Ana Hospital.

Manila Mayor Dr. Maria Sheilah “Honey” Lacuna-Pangan personally administered Pfizer bivalent vaccine to qualified healthcare workers of Sta Ana Hospital who already received second booster shots, four to six months ago.

Mayor Lacuna-Pangan also encouraged qualified senior citizens to get inoculated with bivalent COVID-19 vaccine since they belong to high-risk individuals.

A bivalent vaccine, according to the Department of Health (DOH) targets both the original strain of the virus that causes COVID-19 and Omicron subvariants.

Mayor Lacuna-Pangan also led the inauguration and blessing of Sta Ana Hospital Blood Bank that will provide needed blood on surgeries of sick and poor patients.

In her speech, the mayor also urged Manilenos to donate blood to ensure an adequate supply of blood in the city’s blood bank.

Sta. Ana Hospital Director Dr. Grace Padilla said the blood bank can restore 400 bags every month and can process up to 20 blood donors a day.
