IT was a busy Labor Day for Manila yesterday, as Mayor Isko Moreno and Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna spearheaded the observance of the occasion by creating job opportunities and launching simultaneous vaccinations in a total of 19 sites spread all over the city’s six districts.

The series of vaccinations were highlighted by Moreno’s attendance at the ‘Resbakunahan sa Araw ng Paggawa,’ a special event for Labor Day that saw the symbolic vaccination of 1,200 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and local employees at the Palacio de Maynila located along the service road of Roxas Boulevard.

Moreno, along with Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, Department of Trade and Industry Sec. Ramon Lopez, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority Sec. Isidro Lapeña, witnessed the first vaccination administered by no less than Manila Health Department (MHD) chief Dr. Arnold ‘Poks’ Pangan himself.

During the said event, Moreno called on the OFWs to get vaccinated but also appealed that once they have gotten the jab, they should ‘never relax’ and continue practicing the health protocols.

Alongside this, Lacuna led the numerous teams from the MHD in the inoculation of about 10,000 individuals in the 19 designated vaccination sites beginning at 8 a.m.

Those who were vaccinated yesterday included nearly 9,000 persons who received their second dose. They were those belonging to the A1 to A3 priority groups or health frontliners, senior citizens and persons aged 18 to 59 with comorbidities, who got their first dose of Sinovac vaccine last April 3.

A total of 12 sites were ordered activated by Moreno and Lacuna, to make the vaccination a breeze for the residents.

Simultaneously, six other vaccination sites were designated for the purpose of giving the first dose of Sinovac, also for those belonging to the priority groups A1 to A3. A total of 600 doses were administered in each of the said site from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. under the supervision of Lacuna herself, who also happens to be a doctor.

In the early afternoon, Moreno, via Facebook live, once again served as the bridge between employers looking for employees and Manilans seeking employment, in an effort to create job opportunities for them amid the pandemic.

Through the efforts of the Manila Public Employment Service Office’s Fernan Bermejo who organized the event, the employers announced via Facebook live the job vacancies, qualifications and contact details of their companies.

Bermejo said up for grabs were mixed vacancies for 6,000 professional and skilled workers.

Moreno, on the other hand, interviewed the human resource manager, owners or authorized representatives of the participating companies numbering about .
