Manila HealthTek, Inc. to discuss role of diagnostics to prevent spread of infectious disease at 7thNRDC
THE manufacturer of the first and only locally-developed COVID-19 test kit will share the role of diagnostics in preventing the spread of infectious diseases in the upcoming 7th National Research and Development Conference (NRDC) this 15-16 September 2022.
The GenAmplify COVID-19 rRT-PCR Detection Kit, supported by the Department of Science and Technology- Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD), was developed and manufactured by the Filipino startup company Manila HealthTek, Inc. The kit offers high specificity, high efficiency, and real-time detection of the 2019 novel coronavirus (SARS Cov-2) in respiratory samples. Approved for field trial by the Philippine Food and Drug Administration in March 2020, the GenAmplify contributed to the urgent need for increased local testing capacity for COVID-19 during the onset of the pandemic.
Ms. Joy Ann Santos, the Vice President of the Research and Development of Manila HealthTek, Inc. is set to present the accomplishments, findings, and future plans of the study entitled, “Field Implementation of a Locally Developed Diagnostic Kit for the Detection of CoronaVirus Disease-2019 (COVID-19).”
Aside from the distribution of kits across testing centers in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, the project team also conducted training to capacitate personnel in processing samples and running diagnostic tests.
Recognizing the importance of accessible and quality diagnostics in healthcare, the DOST-PCHRD supports research focusing on the development of diagnostics tests and devices for early detection of diseases under its Diagnostics research priority area. “We, at the DOST-PCHRD believe that investing in diagnostics is crucial in cultivating an efficient healthcare system. The GenAmplify is a testament to this through its contributions in our pandemic response,” DOST-PCHRD Executive Director Jaime Montoya said.
