PIONEER Adhesives, Inc., the makers of leading brand Pioneer Epoxy, recently announced the winners of the “Pinta ng Tibay” Pintura Challenge. This year’s winners include Overall Champion Santi Balase of Tejeros, Makati; Ariel Saragena of Langtad, Argao, Cebu Province; and Mike Egos, from Olingan, Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte.

Balase, who took home Php 70,000, interpreted love and care for the sea with his painting of a hand cradling a baby pawikan, another collecting plastic bottles from the sea, and a sea turtle and dugong swimming freely in the ocean. Second place winner Saragena won Php 60,000 for his interpretation of a group of fishermen hauling the rich harvest from the sea. Egos, on the other hand, showcased the colorful underwater marine life for which he won Php 50,000. This year’s contest yielded highly artistic designs in interpreting the contest theme “Makulay na Yamang Dagat.”

Rounding off the Top 5 winners are Raymond Bradecina of Tabaco, Albay who won Php 40,000 and Bernard James Fernandez of Caoayan, Ilocos Sur who took home Php 30,000.

From over 1500 registered contestants and 254 submitted entries composed of boat makers, boat owners, fishermen, and artists,50 winners emerged, including regional frontrunners from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The entries showcase the beauty of Philippine seas and the rich biodiversity of the country’s underwater marine life.

They also featured the high level of artistry of the participants—a remarkable level up from last year’s entries.

Pioneer Adhesives, Inc.’s “Pinta ng Tibay” is an annual boat painting contest open to water vessels (racing, fishing, recreational, passenger and tourist boats) made of wood, fiberglass or fiber glass encapsulated, and allows the collaboration with an artist or painter in creating and executing the design. Painting should be done by brush, roller and spray via compressor.

All entries were required to use Pioneer Marine Quick Dry Enamel (PMQDE) and Pearl Glaze as paint or combination of both for the entire boat. PMQDE is a general purpose, high-gloss and quick-drying enamel paint. Pearl Glaze, on the other hand, is a two component, epoxy-based resin. Receipt as proof of purchase must be uploaded and non-compliance will disqualify the entry.

As the country’s partner in environment protection, Pioneer Adhesives launched the annual “Pinta ng Tibay Challenge” competition not only to inspire the artistic skill of boat makers but instill in them and in the general public’s minds the importance of preserving the country’s rich marine resources for future generations.
