A 39-year-old fisherman escaped death after the gun pointed to his head by a still unidentified gunman jammed Thursday afternoon in Malabon City.

Jerry Leroma of F. Cruz Footstep, Bgy. Tangos North was walking along Lapu-Lapu Street at around 5:20 p.m. when a lone gunman appeared at the corner of Block 10, Bgy. Longos and shot him once in the nape causing him to fall to the ground.

The suspect approached the bloodied victim and pointed the firearm to his head at close range and squeezed the trigger but the gun jammed.

Malabon police chief P/Col. Albert Barot said the suspect, upon noticing the presence of some witnesses, decided to walk towards his cohort who was driving their getaway motorcycle and immediately sped away to an unknown direction.

The victim was rushed by a concerned citizen to Tondo Medical Center where he underwent surgery for gunshot wound in the nape.

Malabon Police Station Investigation and Detective Management Section chief P/Maj. Ronald Carlos said the motive behind the incident is yet to be determined while a follow-up operation is ongoing for possible identification and arrest of the suspects.
