A GROUP of Malabon policemen were commended Tuesday by Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar for coming to the rescue of a Foodpanda rider who had been scammed.

The food delivery driver sought the assistance of members of the Potrero Police Sub-Station 1 headed by Lieutenant Joseph Almayda after he was tricked by an individual who pretended to be a customer but did not pay for the food items he ordered.

The driver tried repeatedly called the scammer but failed to get an answer.

Out of pity, the local police helped the rider by buying all the food items ordered by the scammer.

Gen. Eleazar commended the Malabon policemen for their Good Samaritan Act.

“Nagtratrabaho nang marangal itong mga delivery riders natin sa kabila ng pandemya. Nakakataba ng puso na sa panahong sinasamantala pa ang kanilang serbisyo ay handa ang ating kapulisan na tulungan sila,” he said.

The PNP Anti-cybercrime Group is investigating the case in line with the PNP’s intensified campaign against online scams. Gen. Eleazar also recently launched the PNP Project E-Access A which is aimed at helping netizens against cybercriminals that include scammers.
