COMMISSIONER Socorro Inting has been designated anew as acting chief of the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
In a message to reporters Wednesday, Comelec Education and Information (EID) Director Frances Arabe said the poll body’s en banc approved Inting’s appointment last week.
“Yes. Effective June 2,” she added.
Inting has been designated to head the Commission after the Commission on Appointments bypassed the ad interim appointment of chairperson Saidamen Pangarungan.
Aside from Pangarungan, the body also bypassed the appointments of Commissioners George Erwin Garcia and Aimee Torrefranca-Neri.
The Comelec’s top post has been vacant since June 1.
Inting was first designated as acting chairperson of the poll body when Sheriff Abas retired last February 2.
The Comelec en banc is also composed of Commissioners Marlon Casquejo, Aimee Ferolino, and Rey Bulay. Philippine News Agency
