THE Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) on Wednesday warned the public of persons posing as their agents and asking for money for the processing of fake packages from overseas.

In a public advisory, the PPA said the scam involves persons pretending to work for the PPA who show a fake sales invoice to their target to prove they have a package from overseas.

“Hihingi ng malaking halaga ang mga ito para diumano punan ang mga serbisyo at ekwipo na ginamit sa pantalan kasama na ang duties and taxes ng bagahe upang mailabas na sa pantalan at madala sa kanilang mga tahanan (They will ask for a large amount of money used to pay for port service and equipment, including duties and taxes for the baggage, before these are released and sent to their home),” it said.

It said the PPA does not work with package handlers or logistics companies that handle packages going through PPA ports.

“Ugaliing maging mapanuri. Maging maingat laban sa ganitong klase ng pananamantala (Always be critical. Be vigilant against these kinds of scams),” it said.

For any questions or concerns, it invited the public to reach out through the PPA Facebook page portsauthorityph and on Twitter @phports. Philippine News Agency
