Heritage buildings

IT must certainly be saddening if the government fails to fully restore and preserve the so-called heritage buildings.

These historical edifices include the remaining 2,065 Gabaldon school buildings, which were built during the American colonial era.

These school buildings are noted for their architecture inspired from bahay kubo (nipa hut) and bahay na bato (stone house).

Thus, we commend the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) for approving the release of P1.134 billion for the project.

Spearheading the multi-pronged project is the Department of Education (DepEd).

“Whether nestled in bustling cities or remote provinces, these historic edifices hold the promise of progress,” said DBM Secretary Amenah Pangandaman.

She added: “Together, we forge a path towards a renewed Philippines, leaving no one behind as espoused by President Bongbong Marcos’ vision of Bagong Pilipinas.”

Renovating the Gabaldon school buildings and other historical structures is part of the government’s cultural restoration efforts.

Under the project, DepEd and the Department of Public Works and Highways must ensure that the buildings are fully restored “and not just renovated or rehabilitated.”
