IT is something the Filipino people, particularly the vulnerable sectors of society, like the elderly, should never ignore.

It is the advice of the Philippine Atmospheric , Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) to the public to stay hydrated.

PAGASA authorities said the people ought to drink plenty of water to avoid the adverse effects of extreme heat brought about by the worsening of climate change.

And the people should bring in an umbrella or hat as a protection from direct heat and should rest from time to time in shaded areas when going outside.

In fact, the state, through the Department of Education (DepEd) and local government units (LGUs), has suspended face-to-face classes in some parts of the country.

This is to protect the students, teachers and other school personnel against the adverse effects of the sweltering heat now terrorizing the people.

A severe medical emergency, heat stroke occurs when the body can no longer control its temperature, according to medical experts.

Some of the symptoms of heat stroke include headache, nausea, dizziness, strong pulse, fainting and body temperature above 103 degrees F.

Of course, the Filipino people expect their government to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the public during national emergencies, such as extreme heat.
