Concern for OFWs

NOBODY can blame Filipinos, including women, who continue to look for jobs in foreign lands, notably the United States, Canada, Germany, Australia and the oil-rich Middle East.

As honest, loyal, highly-dedicated, courteous and God-fearing workers, Filipinos are the undisputed “darling” of foreign employers throughout the world.

And through their billions of dollar remittances, our migrant workers play a vital role in this Southeast Asian nation’s socio-economic development.

Today, OFWs are acclaimed as “modern-day heroes” not only in the Philippines but also in countries where they work.

That’s why it is incumbent upon our government, through concerned offices and agencies, to ensure the health, safety and welfare of these Filipinos.

Paying tribute to our OFWs on “Labor Day” last Wednesday, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) vowed “to make their travel more convenient.”

In a statement, Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco cited the setting up of special lanes for migrant workers.

Tansingco also cited the interconnectivity of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) systems and operations with the BI.

“On this significant occasion (Labor Day), we pay tribute to the invaluable contributions of Filipino workers,” said the BI chief.

It is to the credit of the authorities that they continue provide moral, legal and financial help to our migrant workers.
