OUTGOING Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra will meet today, June 9, his successor Cavite Representative Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla to discuss the transition process of the Justice Department’s operations and programs to the next administration.

The meeting will start at 10 a.m. at the Department of Justice (DOJ) building in Manila.

Last week, Guevarra told reporters that he will suggest the following matters to Remulla: a) maintain the excellent record in anti-human trafficking; b) strengthen the campaign against cybercrimes; c) pursue the three-year joint program with the UN (United Nations) on human rights promotion and protection; d) develop alternative dispute resolution mechanisms such as mediation; e) transfer the NBP (New Bilibid Prison) and professionalize the BuCor (Bureau of Corrections); f) regionalize prison facilities; g) complete the single carpeta system (digitization of all prison records); h) pursue the immigration modernization bill; and strengthen relations with law enforcement agencies and the judiciary.

Remulla has accepted the offer to become the Justice secretary of president-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

He admitted that as a lawyer, it is a huge “opportunity” and challenge to serve the country as head of the DOJ.

Remulla ran unopposed as Cavite congressman in the province’s 7th congressional district.
