UNITED States Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff arrived in Manila on Tuesday, two days before the inauguration of President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
In a related development, Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian, said China’s President Xi Jinping will be sending Vice President Wang Qishan to attend the inauguration ceremony.
Emhoff was welcomed by US Embassy in the Philippines Chargé d’Affaires ad interim Heather Variava and Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary Chief of Protocol Wilfredo Santos.
The Second Gentleman is also set to meet with Filipino US exchange alumni.
Meanwhile, on his official Facebook account, Huang announced “As the special representative of President Xi Jinping, Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan will attend the inauguration ceremony of the Philippines’ President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on June 30.”
Marcos Jr. will take his oath as the 17th president of the country at 12 noon on June 30 at the National Museum.
Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo will administer the oath of office.
