Remains of US shooting victim arrive in Manila

THE remains of Philadelphia shooting victim, Atty. John Albert B. Laylo arrived in Manila yesterday (June 29), the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced.

Leah Laylo, the mother of John Albert, accompanied the body along with a cousin, back to Manila from New York City on Wednesday (June 29, 2022) via PAL PR 127.

“The Department of Foreign Affairs, Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Worker’s Affairs receives with sadness the arrival of the body of Atty. John Albert B. Laylo, a shooting victim in Philadelphia,” the DFA said.

The rest of John’s family members–his father Albert, and sisters–Ann and Althea received them at the airport.

John sustained a gunshot wound in the head in a random shooting in Philadelphia on June 18 while on board an Uber on their way to the airport. His mother also sustained minor injuries during the incident.

Earlier, the Philippine Consulate General in New York said police are looking into the angle of “mistaken identity”.

The DFA said the consulate promptly extended assistance to the Laylo family including but not limited to the repatriation of John’s remains.
