Educating the voters

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) is dedicated to the service of protecting the people’s constitutional right to elect government officials, including the President, of their choice.

But it is of paramount importance that the public works in unison with other poll stakeholders in educating the voting citizenry on the evils of “vote buying” and other electoral frauds.

Everybody agrees that it is the problem of representative government to keep the people well-informed about the qualifications of those seeking public office during political exercises.

In the view of many, aside from guarding the purity of the ballots, election stakeholders ought to help in our national efforts to “preserve the democratic ideals in the Philippines.

This they will do by helping the millions of registered voters across the country in selecting the best candidates, who will chart the destiny of the nation and the Filipino people.

“Kailangang alamin natin ang mga katangian ng mga kandidatong humaharap sa bayan tuwing may eleksyon, nasyonal man o lokal,” said an aging rice farmer.

“Ang mahalaga ay huwag na huwag nating ipagbili ang ating nag-iisang boto kung gusto nating magkaroon ng pagbabago sa ating lipunan,” said the irate farm worker.

Aside from registering as a voter, let’s then join organizations tasked to ensure the election of deserving candidates in next year’s balloting, which is democracy in action.

It is one way of eradicating red tape, graft and corruption, and other shenanigans in government offices and agencies not only in the metropolis but throughout the country.

Dapat kilatisin nating mabuti ang mga kandidato sa darating na Mayo 9, 2022.
