TALAVERA, Nueva Ecija — The youngest son of former mayor-turned-vice mayor Nerivi Santos-Martinez got afflicted with dengue fever after enplaning from this town to join his mother in Cebu City on Nov.14.

Martinez, elder sister of former Association of Barangay Captains president and now-mayor Nerito “JR” Santos Jr., posted on Facebook that JD, her son with late husband Marvin, was rushed to the emergency room in Cebu City hospital after he arrived at night there.

“When he (JD) got to Cebu, that night, he suddenly got chills & high fever up to 41.6C. We rushed him to the ER around 12 mn, pinauwi pa kami kase ok pa daw. We got back to the hotel pero di bumaba ang fever, kaya we rushed him back, in the ER he collapsed,” the vice mayor said in her post, which already turned viral garnering more than 1,400 reactions and 396 comments after posting it two hours earlier.

“Apparently, he was dehydrated already. For three straight days, he was hallucinating and barely awake due to high fever,” she added.

Santos-Martinez captioned her FB post–”JD’s 4th day in the hospital” also posting two photos while hugging JD at the hospital bed, describing it as their mother-son “super-bonding moment.”

The vice mayor was at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Lahug, Cebu City to attend the Local Executive/Legislative Program held Nov. 13 to 16 with fellow Nueva Ecija leaders, including Palayan City mayor Vianne Cuevas, Rizal mayor Trina Andres, and Sta. Rosa Vice mayor Atty. Ethel Angeles.

“Today, he feels better na but still needs to be closely monitored kase platelets are still going down. So please, pray with me that he recovers fast,” Santos-Martinez added.

She also thanked her “sister,” former San Ildefonso, Bulacan mayor Carla Galvez Tan for “staying with them” throughout their ordeal.
