DOT to initiate German language training for tour guides — Frasco
TOURISM Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco conveyed the Department of Tourism’s (DOT) interest in initiating German language training for tourism frontliners, particularly tour guides, to further develop the tourism product portfolio of the Philippines for German tourists.
Frasco met with Dieter Janecek, Coordinator for the Maritime Industry and Tourism under the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Change, on the sidelines of the Internationale Tourismus-Börse (ITB) 2023 Convention held in Messe Berlin, Germany, from March 7 to 9, 2023.
The officials also discussed the necessity of enhancing connectivity between The Philippines and Germany.
They tackled possible areas of collaboration with regard to joint promotions to strengthen the Philippine presence in the German market, as well as the best sustainable tourism practices that may be ventured into by both countries.
The meeting was also attended by Consul Mary Luck Hicarte of the Embassy of the Philippines in Germany, Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) Philippines COO Margarita Montemayor Nograles, and DOT officials Undersecretary Shahlimar Hofer Tamano, OIC-Undersecretary Verna Buensuceso, and Assistant Secretary Rica Bueno.
The Philippines’ participation at the ITB Berlin aims to strengthen the country’s global tourism campaign through partnership opportunities with various private tourism sectors, including tour operators, online travel agencies, new online distribution platforms, travel websites and communities, journalists, and influencers, among others.
