POLITICIANS from Dinagat Islands led by incoming Representative Alan Ecleo are expressing support for Majority Leader Martin Romualdez as the next Speaker of the House.

The Ecleos, who are members of the Lakas-CMD, are rejoicing from their landslide victory and retaking the Provincial Capitol.

“We in Dinagat Islands welcome a House leadership under Rep. Martin Romualdez, as he was instrumental in facilitating crucial support to our Province throughout the pandemic, and especially after the devastation of Typhoon Odette,” Rep. Ecleo said.

“I believe that our shared experience as survivors of two of the most devastating storms in the history of the Philippines, Yolanda and Odette, will enable us to pass urgent legislation on disaster resilience and climate adaptation,” he added.

A month after Typhoon Odette hit the province, Rep. Ecleo filed a resolution seeking for a P9.4 billion budget augmentation to fund the recovery and rehabilitation in Dinagat Islands.

In a privilege speech, Ecleo called on the government and national agencies to step up in the delivery of needed services, including support to reconstruct houses, schools, and health centers in the province.

“The amount of support from LAKAS-CMD, especially from the party leadership under party chair incoming VP Inday Sara and Cong. Romualdez after Typhoon Odette destroyed many of our homes and infrastructure, was emblematic of the kind of leadership our constituents want,” Rep. Ecleo explained.

“That is why it is unsurprising that Dinagatnons knew as early as then who they should vote for,” he added.

The 2022 elections delivered an overwhelming win for members of the LAKAS-CMD candidates, most especially the Marcos-Duterte tandem.

President-elect Bongbong Marcos and Vice President-elect Inday Sara Duterte gained at least 98 percent of votes in the province, where the rest of the UniTeam slate also dominated.

Locally, Lakas-CMD also swept local positions in the province as Lakas members Nilo Demerey Jr. and Benglen Ecleo were proclaimed as governor and vice governor, respectively.

The provincial Board of the two provincial districts were also dominated by the Lakas-CMD candidates. By Jester Manalastas
