NCRAA: PMMS shocks La Salle- Dasmariñas, PATTS overcomes EAC

PHILIPPINE Merchant Marine School pulled off a king-sized 84-77 upset win over De La Salle University-Dasmariñas, while PATTS College of Aeronautics overcame a slow start to subdue Emilio Aguinaldo College – Cavite, 91-87, in the 30th NCRAA (National Capital Region Athletic Association) basketball tournament at the Bestlink gymnasium in Novaliches, Quezon City.

The Mariners of coach Aldrin Morante rode on the balance scoring attack from Vince Salonga, Jerome Jaucian, Alfred Estinopo and Dave Bolima.

Salonga finished with 19 points, seven assists and five rebounds while Jaucian added 19 points and eight rebounds. Estinopo contributed with 15 points.

Bolima had a monster double-double performace of 15 points, and 19 rebounds.

Rogelio Calagos and Gio Santiago spearheaded the Dasmariñas-based Patriots of coach Tito Reyes, finishing with 21 and 20 points, respectively.

Calagos also had 10 assists and six rebounds while Santiago added five rebounds.

JL Rasonable contributed 11 points while Ronroy Bunda tallied 10 points on 3-of-18 shooting from the field.

The Las Piñas-based upstaged the No. 1 team in three-point territory, with the Mariners firing 12-of-30 shooting from beyond the arc against the Patriots’ 7-of-37.

Meanwhile, Emman Benitez and Joshua Bongon provided the firepower for the Sea Horses of coach Lensy Aranzaso

Benitez finished with 25 points while Bongon added 23 points, seven assists and six rebounds.

Jordan Alvarez contributed 19 points in PATTS’ victory

Ken Catsao led the attack for the Cavite-based Vanguards of coach Azlie Guro with 24 points, six rebounds and six assists.

Ken Quillao and Gary Avila added 12 points each.

In other matches, EAC-Cavite dominated Bestlink College of the Philippines, 74-43, in the junior division.

Johann Onoya led the Juniors Vanguards with 18 points , five assists and five rebounds for coach Dennis Rasing.

Prince Rosaroso and Paul Africa added eight points each, while Karl Bersabe, Raissel Robin and Keith Esusan had seven points each.

JC Quinto carried the fight for the Junior Kalasag with 14 points and five rebounds.

Albert Cabato added 10 points and seven rebounds for coach Edwin Punio.

In the womens division, Centro Escolar University outplayed PMMS Lady Mariners, 77-64.

Jessica Mahusay and Hannah Gumapo led the Lady Scorpions with 13 and 11 points, respectively, for coach Romel Gador.

Bea Pesito had 15 points while Genevere Sediego and Chelsea Mesina added 12 and 11 points for the Lady Mariners of coach Ralph Briones.
