NEARLY P2 million worth of shabu were seized by agents of the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) Drug Enforcement Group (DEG) in a series of anti-narcotics operations in the country this week, which resulted in the arrest of five top drug “targets”, PNP-DEG Director Brigadier General Narcisco D. Domingo on Saturday said.

In a report to PNP Chief Gen. Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr., the official said that one of the suspects from Lapaz, Iloilo City, was arrested in a controlled delivery operation inside the Bredco Port in Bacolod City last Wednesday.

Anti-illegal drug agents recovered a shoulder bag containing around 150 grams of shabu valued at P1.020 million. The official said that members of the DEG Special Operations Unit 6 were joined by operatives from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (PPO) in conducting the successful operation.

On Thursday, DEG SOU 13 agents arrested two known drug suspects in the Caraga region, both residents of Butuan City, during a buy-bust operation along Montilla Street in Bgy. San Ignacio.

The official said that the two were arrested after they conspired to sell some 30 grams of shabu worth P204,000 to an undercover officer. The sting was conducted by the PNP-DEG with the support of the Butuan City Police Office under Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13) Director Brig. Gen. Romeo C. Caramat.

Another anti-narcotics raid in Initao, Misamis Occidental, on Friday led to the arrest of another suspect after the searching party recovered around 30 grams of shabu worth P204,000 and assorted drug paraphernalia inside his residence, according to Domingo.

In Cebu City, DEG SOU 7 agents arrested alias “Moding”, of Bgy. Tisa after he sold shabu to a plainclothes officer in Sitio Chicosan in the same area at 8:00 p.m. Thursday.

The suspect yielded some 50 grams of shabu worth P340,000 and the buy-bust money.

In Zamboanga Sibugay, the official said that his men are still tracking down alias “Owa”, the owner of a house in Bgy. Magdaup, which they raided on the strength of a search warrant for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 issued by a local court.

Domingo said that recovered inside the suspect’s residence were 17 plastic sachets of shabu containing an estimated 22 grams of shabu worth around P150,000.

All arrested suspects are now facing charges for violation of RA 9165.

The PNP-DEG director also reported the arrest of a resident of Bgy. Greater Fairview in Quezon City on the strength of a warrant for violation of RA 9165 issued by Judge Luis Zenon Maceren of the QC Regional Trial Court Branch 218 last Friday.
