SAVI Davison was sensational in PLDT’s 25-13, 25-15, 25-16 victory over Capital1 to gain a piece of fourth spot in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference preliminaries at the Filoil EcoOil Centre.

The High Speed Hitters capitalized on their determined effort to recover from a previous setback that snapped a two-game run, dominating the Solar Spikers with their experience and court strategy.

“The girls bring a lot of energy during game day and it’s good to feed off them,” said Davison, who led PLDT with 22 points, including two blocks, and nine digs.

Fiola Ceballos hammered 10 kills, while Dell Palomata finally suited up and matched Davison’s two blocks for the High Speed Hitters.

Sharing fourth place at 3-1, PLDT and PetroGazz, a 25-21, 25-23, 25-17 winner over Akari in the second match, positioned within striking distance of defending champion Creamline, Choco Mucho and Cignal, all sporting similar 3-0 records.

Brooke Van Sickle had 24 points, including four service aces and two blocks and six digs as the Angels secured their second consecutive win after a heartbreaking five-set defeat to the Flying Titans.

“Again my goal for this season is just to be consistent. I feel my mindset going to the game is just one point at a time. It is what it is,” said Van Sickle.

Jonah Sabete was the other PetroGazz player in double digits with 12 points that went along with four receptions.

Eli Soyud led the Chargers with 13 points while Grethcel Soltones, playing against her former team for the first time, added seven points, including two service aces, and five digs.

Rhea Dimaculangan lobbed 12 excellent sets and contributed two points while libero Kath Arado anchored the team’s defense with 13 digs and six receptions for the High Speed Hitters.

Coach Rald Ricafort expressed satisfaction with the win, emphasizing the contributions of his role players and PLDT’s consistency. He also highlighted the importance of handling pressure effectively in both training and games.

“We’re happy with the win, happy na naka-contribute ulit yung mga role players namin,” said Ricafort.

“Skills-wise, hindi masyado yung sa adjustment pero yung maging mas consistent. Hindi kasi napa-practice yung pressure eh. So binabanggit ko sa kanila na pati yun kailangan dalhin sa training para naha-handle nang maayos sa game,” he added.

Capital1, which came into the match with optimism following a breakthrough four-set win over Strong Group Athletics, struggled in both offense and defense in the first two sets but put up a strong stand majority of the third.

Communication lapses, however, hindered the Solar Spikers’ efforts for a turnaround.

Heather Guino-o showed the way for Capital1 with six points and five digs, and Syd Niegos also scored six points, while Jannine Navarro had four kills.
