BERNADETH Pons had 12 points as defending champion Creamline made short work of Strong Group Athletics, 25-13, 25-13, 25-19, to seize the solo lead yesterday in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference preliminaries at the Philsports Arena.

The Cool Smashers, who streaked to their fourth consecutive victory, dominated the league debutants, giving coach Sherwin Meneses a chance to give seldom-used players more court time.

Pons, who is on her second conference with Creamline after a four-year beach volleyball stint, had 10-of-21 attacks and fired a match-best two service aces.

“Ang sabi nga sa amin ni coach na huwag kaming magpabaya, kahit sino man ang kalaban namin, huwag kaming maging kampante. Maglaro lang kami kung ano ang kailangan naming gawin.

Iyon lang, maglaro lang kami at mag-enjoy kami sa loob,” said Pons.

All but one of the 12 players fielded in by Meneses scored two points or more in the 79-minute match.

Dolly Verzosa had eight kills, 13 digs and four receptions for Strong Group, which fell to 0-4.

After having a cakewalk in the last two matches, Creamline will test the mettle of unpredictable Chery Tiggo on Saturday at the Santa Rosa Multipurpose Sports Complex in Laguna.

On the other hand, SGA looks to enter the win column when they take on Cignal on Tuesday.
