THE mayor of Pandag, Maguindanao who is facing a non-bailable warrant of arrest for two counts of murder was arrested by Philippine National Police (PNP) agents inside a hotel in Davao City on Friday, PNP chief, General Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr. said.

Mayor Khadaffe ‘Toy’ Mangudadatu was apprehended inside the Royal Mandaya Hotel in Davao City around 4:20 p.m. Friday on the basis of a warrant for two counts of murder issued by Judge Samina Macabando-Usman of the Tacurong City Regional Trial Court Branch 20 in Sultan Kudarat, said the top cop.

Azurin said members of the Sultan Kudarat Police Provincial Office, PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, Regional Intelligence Unit 11 and the Davao City Police Office effected the arrest.

The mayor was placed under arrest after being informed of his constitutional rights and was later taken to the Davao Doctors Hospital for a medical check-up, said Police Regional Office 11 director, Brigadier Gen. Benjamin H. Silo Jr

The mayor was placed under the custody of the CIDG Regional Field Unit in Bangsamoro Administrative Region for booking and documentation pending his presentation to court, according to PNP-CIDG director, Brig. Gen. Ronald O. Lee.

Lee said the double murder case filed against the accused stemmed from the killing of spouses Abdulah and Lala Ligawan in Purok 6, Barangay Sinakula in President Quirino, Sultan Kudarat on October 7, 2010.

The official said the mayor was brought to the hospital after complaining of chest pain and shortness of breath. CIDG agents have been assigned to guard him.
