SAN NARCISO, Zambales – A “highly-respected” businessman and political leader will donate a “life-size” statue of the late President Diosdado Macapagal that will be unveiled at the Philippine Marine Merchant Academy (PMMA) in San Narciso, Zambales, in commemoration of the death anniversary of the former president on April 21.

People’s Journal Tonight learned that Dr. Renato Legaspi, a businessman based in Central Luzon (CL), will donate the life-size statue of the ninth president of the country, the father of former president and incumbent Pampanga Congresswoman Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

A Ph.D. holder, Dr. Legaspi, president of the Legaspi Group of Companies, including the Integrated Meat Processing Plant, Inc., in Hermosa, Bataan, and two other schools, said he proposed the unveiling of the statue of the former president being “instrumental” in establishing the PMMA as a state maritime academy during the term of the late President Macapagal in 1963.

The PMMA, formerly known as the Philippine Nautical School, was created in January 1963 via Republic Act (RA) No. 3680, which was signed into law by former President Macapagal.

Since then, PMMA has produced efficient and well-trained merchant marine officers of an “international caliber.”

Expected to attend the unveiling are ex-president and Cong. Macapagal-Arroyo; Cielo Macapagal Arroyo, former vice governor of Pampanga; Zambales governor Hermogenes Ebdane; Zambales town mayors; Lucy Romero Babaran; and other personalities.
