CIGNAL withstood Jolina dela Cruz’s 30-point explosion to beat F2 Logistics, 25-23, 22-25, 26-24, 26-24, and stretch its winning run to five matches in the Premier Volleyball League Second All-Filipino Conference at the Filoil EcoOil Centre last night.

Veterans Jovelyn Gonzaga and Ces Molina produced clutch kills that broke the match’s final deadlock at 24-24 and tow the HD Spikers to their sixth victory overall against two defeats.

“Very blessed and happy,” said Cignal coach Shaq delos Santos. “Hopefully huwag kaming ma-satisfy sa nakukuha namin kasi alam pa namin yung pagdadaanan namin. May last three games kami na natitira. Paghihirapan namin at paghahandaan.”

Earlier, Nxled posted its first winning streak of its young existence with a 25-22, 25-18, 25-17 romp of Galeries Tower.

The HD Spikers left everything on the floor in the thrilling two-hour, 31-minute contest to stymie the Cargo Movers, who dropped to 4-4.

“Grabe ang ibinigay na effort sa game na iyon,” said Delos Santos. “To be honest, yung score, I think, 24-22, sabi ko, maniwala lang, maipapanalo natin ang game na ito. Tiyagain natin and ayun, naibigay sa amin ni Lord ang panalo. Ginusto ng mga players na manalo talaga.”

Molina led Cignal with 22 points and seven receptions, Gonzaga had four blocks for a 15-point effort and collected 11 digs while Gel Cayuna tossed in 22 excellent sets.

“We worked as a team tonight,” said Molina.

Jho Maraguinot logged 13 points, seven digs and six receptions, Krich Macaslang fired 8-of-12 spikes and had two service aces for a 11-point outing. Lycha Ebon chipped in 10 points while Camille Victoria had three blocks to finish with eight points for the Chameleons.

Filling the starting role from May Luna, the hero of Nxled’s four-set win over Akari who immediately went home to Davao after the match lato be with her mother who recently passed away, Chiara Permentilla stepped up also with six points and seven receptions.

Coach Taka Minowa, however, was not satisfied with the result, as the Highrisers gave the Chameleons some anxious moments.

“Actually, in the first and second sets, our players were moving tightly. I think they were somewhat afraid to play inside the court against Galeries. So, actually, I want to say it was a bad game, even though we won 3-0,” said Minowa.

Andrea Marzan paced the Highrisers with 11 points while Audrey Paran added nine points and seven digs.

Galeries Tower remained winless in seven matches to remain at the bottom of the standings with Gerflor.
