POLICE Regional Office 13 director Brig. Gen. Kirby John B. Kraft yesterday announced the arrest of six lawbreakers in Caraga region during separate anti-criminality operations which also led to the confiscation of over P100,000 worth of shabu.

The official said that one of the arrested suspects is a “high-value individual” in the region who yielded an estimated P102,000 worth of the “poor man’s cocaine” during an anti-narcotics raid in Bgy. Katipunan in Las Nieves, Agusan del Norte last Wednesday.

Kraft said that the 51-year old suspect Romel Gamotin alias “Tata” was arrested by members of the Las Nieves Municipal Police Station during the service of a search warrant for illegal possession of drugs under Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 issued by the Butuan City Regional Trial Court.

The raiding team placed the accused under arrest after they recovered 10 grams of shabu worth P68,000 inside his house. A record check showed that the suspect was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Bgy. Libertad in Butuan City on September 7, 2002 but managed to post bail after availing of plea bargaining.

The other three suspected drug personalities arrested were identified as Nimrod Gasta, Gilbert Espera and Mark Anthony Unabia. The three were arrested in separate stings in Butuan City and in Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur respectively.

Confiscated from the suspects were five grams of shabu worth P34,000 and the marked bills paid to them by undercover agents.

All four suspects are facing charges for violation of RA 9165.

Kraft likewise reported the capture of two most wanted persons in the region last Monday.

The official identified the two as Cesar Meguiño, 39; and Al Rajie Baraontong, 19.

He said that Meguiño, tagged as the 10th most wanted man in Agusan del Norte, was tracked down in his hiding place in Bgy. Macalang in Buenavista town.

Meguiño was arrested on the strength of a warrant of arrest for attempted murder.

The Butuan City RTC recommended a P120,000 bail for the temporary liberty of the accused who was charged in connection with the stabbing of a tricycle driver who was sleeping inside his house in Bgy. Sacol last May 18.

Baraontong was arrested in his residence in Bgy. Mangagoy in Bislig City, Surigao del Sur on the basis of a warrant for violation of Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence against Women and their Children Act of 2004 issued by the Bislig City RTC.

The court set a P72,000 bail for the temporary freedom of the accused who has been described as the 5th most wanted person in Bislig City.

The suspect was accused of mauling his pregnant live-in partner inside their abode last year.
